New Mexico students received top honors at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) National Leadership Conference.  The HOSA National Leadership Conference, held in Anaheim, CA, Fl., took place June 21-25, 2011.

New Mexico students and schools winning top honors are:

Taos High School students; Brooke Cisneros and Angel Herrera placed first in the nation, receiving Gold Medals in Forensic Medicine.  Taos HOSA chapter advisor is Ms. Carla Chavez.

During the national competition, Cisneros and Herrera competed in the first round, consisting of a written test to evaluate their understanding of Forensic Medicine.  They then advanced to the second round of competition, where they presented their conclusion analysis of a case study, including written and physical evidence.

Onate High School in Las Cruces was selected as an Outstanding National Chapter.  Onate HOSA chapter advisor is Ms. Tammy Atkinson.

HOSA is a student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.
